The Amaral Repertory Dance Ensemble Presents Pasión Española

A Showcase of Flamenco, fusion and Spanish dance styles

Get ready to experience the amazing talent of the Amaral Repertory Dance Ensemble.  On Sunday, March 26, at the Plaza del Sol Theatre, on the campus of Cal State University, Northridge (CSUN), an exhilarating evening of Flamenco and uniquely stylized Spanish dance is to be had.

Pasión Española is the brainchild of Roberto Amaral, a visionary dancer, singer and choreographer, who has gathered an eclectic company of performers to present six world premiere choreographies, along with some of his classic favorites.

“Our colorful and exciting production will showcase a varied array of Flamenco, fusion and Spanish dance styles,” said Amaral. “It includes lavishly costumed large group production numbers as well as dramatic solos and duets. Some of the highlight dances which will be presented are a romantic Flamenco duet set to Garcia Lorca’s Zorongo Gitano, an orquestral Flamenco suite entitled Bulerias Orquestales, and fiery staging of two of my original Flamenco fusion compositions, “Fantasia” and Gitanita de Buena Suerte”.

Amaral will be playing the roles of both singer and dancer on March 26, and there is good reason to not miss it.  Maestro Amaral will be reprising his celebrated classical solo to de Falla`s `La Vida Breve`.

He has quite an impressive body of work that has resulted in his worldwide acclaim as a dancer, choreographer, master teacher, singer, composer and artist. He’s danced on the world’s biggest stages, including London’s Victoria Theatre, Paris’ Olympia Theatre, Milan’s La Scala Opera House, and New York’s Lincoln Center and Madison Square Garden. He’s been featured on the Academy Awards and was a member of the groundbreaking rock band Carmen, which blended Flamenco with orchestral rock. From 1971 – 1975, the band’s touring slate included shows with Jethro Tull, ELO and Blue Oyster Cult, and a slot on David Bowie’s 1973 TV program The David Bowie Midnight Special.

Obviously he’s a man of immense creative talent.

Speaking of talent, the 25 members of the ensemble that will be on hand at Pasión Española will include dancer Alfredo Aja, Flamenco guitarists Antonio Triana and Kai Narezo, and percussionist Joey Heredia.

It looks to be a very colorful and entertaining evening of song and dance that is well worth exploring and adding to your upcoming weekend schedule.
