If we are talking about a specific person, it’s important to check what the Internet says about him, but to clarify with him – whether this information is relevant and where he now works. Social networks, professional, personal and corporate sites often have outdated information.

Even the relationship must be checked. No one has canceled the human factor, and sometimes someone can misspoke and say “son” instead of “nephew”. So it’s important to train yourself to doubt every word.


If you use statistics in your story, be sure to include a link to the research that was conducted by the specific resource. A valid study is one that the organization itself has written about. To use statistics in your story, you must find the original source.


It’s important to check that the email address works and that the company employees answer the phone. An author or editor has to take a few minutes to call and write to the company before publishing anything. But it helps to avoid annoying situations for readers.

And to avoid uncomfortable moments, indicate that the data is correct at a certain point. The Internet remembers everything and some materials may be relevant and readable even after the company has moved or closed.
