Intentional Conversation The Role of Art In Society

Each fall for nearly a decade, a group of nearly one hundred writers, artists, composers and other art professionals has gathered in a large meeting room in the Los Angeles Cathedral for a day-long “Intentional Conversation.” In small groups, the participants talk about their lives and personal experiences as artists, and focus on a theme centering on creativity, the creative process and the role of art in society.
It is a chance for artists from Southern California to meet their colleagues from all disciplines and share common concerns. It is also an opportunity for those in the artistic community to reflect on their role as artists and the importance of art in the world. The Conversation also features a panel discussion by distinguished artists around the larger theme. This year’s Conversation will take place on Wednesday, October 24th, 2012.
More than a thousand artists have participated in these Conversations, which are sponsored by Marymount College and the Institute for Intentional Conversation. Participation in the Intentional Conversation is by invitation only. Artists, writers, composers and other arts professionals who are interested in attending may contact Hoyt Hilsman, Executive Director of the Institute for Intentional Conversation at hoyth@aol.com. Please mention that you are part of the Cultural Weekly community.
