This week’s SoCal dance events include dance on public art in Culver City, flamenco in East Hollywood, political dance downtown to benefit Planned Parenthood, contemporary dance in Glassell Park, dance and live music at Southwest College, and so much more.

5. Togethering

Rebecca Lemme’s Acts of Matter and Andrea Gise’s Dance Aegis reunite for a third shared concert under the banner T 3 T H E R I N G. Their prior joint concerts provided compelling contemporary dance and this time the two companies join forces with two new players L.A. Contemporary Dance Company and OC-based The Assembly. 4.  Flamenco foursome

This edition of the long-running, mostly monthly Forever Flamenco series presents Noche en Triana with dancers Fanny Ara, Reyes Barrios, Alice Blumenfeld and Oscar Valero backed by artistic director/guitarist Antonio Triana, singer Jesus Montoya and guitarist Kai Narezo. 3.  Party like it’s 1988

The site specific masters at Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre launch 1988, a four part performance series employing the city’s public art collection as venues to celebrate the centennial of Culver City’s founding. 2.  Just getting the family together

It’s definitely a family affair as the Washington Family Concert affirms the power of education and celebrates Southwest College’s 50th anniversary. For the occasion, celebrated choreographer Lula Washington assembled her talented dance family and musical in-laws including husband/producer Erwin Washington, daughter/choreographer/dancer Tamika Washington-Miller, and her husband/composer/drummer Marcus L. Miller. On the in-law side, composer/musicians Rickey Washington and Kamasi Washington are joined by the 10 piece band The Next Step playing music from their hit cd The Epic, plus art and emcee contributions from four more cousins. Several of the family are Southwest grads and as alumni welcomed the chance to get together to jam with new choreography and live music for this golden anniversary. L.A. 1.  Sweet 16 

For its 16th festival, Dance Camera West reaffirms its preeminent dance film festival status with its signature blend of dance films and live performances,. The opening night includes an evening of international short films plus a live performance from the Seaweed Sisters. UCLA Royce Hall, 340 Royce Dr., Westwood; Thurs., April 20, 8 p.m., $12. Friday’s Celebration of UCLA Dance 1962-2017 begins with a free screening of a film about Allegra Fuller Snyder then a ticketed performance, readings and reception paying tribute to an array of UCLA dance founders and alums. Composer/performer Dohee Lee employs wearable sensors for her solo piece MU/巫—meaning “shaman” blending music, singing, drumming and dance in a multimedia exploration of ancient Korean shamanism. This edition of American Contemporary Ballet’s Dance + Design launches a seven-part history of ballet. A new work by Benjamin Millepied set on the Coburn Dance Academy’s students highlight the Colburn School’s annual gala which also includes performances by the Colburn School’s orchestra. While Pantsula 4 Lyf is not live performance, this celebration of popular dance in South Africa offers photographer Chris Saunders’ intriguing photos and videos capturing pantsula’s adaptation of hip hop and American fashion. Featuring crews of young men and women in Johannesburg, pantsula performers favor American-name brands like Converse All-Star shoes and Dickies brand work pants.
