Burn Me

tell me a tale

with loud brightness – like lightning

burn me, imprint me

with zigzags of words

branded and stinging

when retold and remembered

chain me

to truths and untruths

to the hurts of this world

bind me

to the way

your words rise and fall

to the tears

and the dark

and the pain

tell me again

how light

came from the heavens

rained down to

strike matches

and start fires on earth

how you bear it

the heavy burden

of ashes and shadows

of burnt flesh

and burning hope

whisper me your tales

shout them

scream them through tears

I’ll listen

dream through long nights

and hold your light close,

red-hot embers tended

smoldering, glowing,

as long as I can speak

What are you looking for?
