The pitch black dark
lights up even the most timid
of colours around the garden steps
where we have our dinner because
there are only so many spots
you can sit in the house
and I yearn for the new
Maybe we’ll work for 10 hours
Maybe we’ll pack up our sunscreen
and head to the sea
That will all have to wait
as in an hour or so the dessert
will be ready to take out of the freezer
bury with chocolate chips
and eat with closed eyes
for the peonies in the night
are too pink and too bright
