I Have Left You to Be With The City

I Have Left You to Be With The City

I have left you
to walk on concrete roads
sparkling with mica
speckled with spit gums
some fresh enough
to get my soles stuck on them

The gum stretches out like dough
when I lift my feet
the way I adhere to you
by some sticky substance
even when I’m away
on this frigid sidewalk
lit by the faint morning sun
without the warmth of your hand
your footsteps beside me

What are you looking for?
