Solitude

I walked alone today,
Slowly,
Up the deserted street
In the sad, still silence of the morning.
I wasn’t lost
Or searching
Or thinking, really,
Just wandering
Alone
In the chill air
With no one in sight.
I didn’t go far,
But I kept walking forever,
Putting one foot in front of another,
Here, there, and once more again.
I wasn’t tired and it wasn’t hard
To walk alone,
Just to be.
