To An Online Friend

Sometimes I think I would have not
Befriended you, had we first met
Elsewhere than on the Internet;
Neither indeed could I have sought
You whom I had not known before.
Our contact a glad happenstance,
Though formed and treasured long-distance;
A dear friend—a stranger no more.
We have not once met in real life
Nor shaken hands with each other:
Yet we have shared each joy, each strife.
Though this bond birthed in the ether
Of digital bytes and human hearts
May seem to some chimerical
Our love is strong, though worlds apart;
Our friendship almost magical.
