Ray Manzarek (February 12, 1939 – May 20, 2013) was a polymath — an American producer, singer, composer, musician, movie director, and author who came of age in Chicago’s South Side. He’s best known as keyboardist for The Doors, which he founded with Jim Morrison, whom he’s met when they were cinema students at UCLA in the early 1960s.
