Courtesy of our friends at Numberphile, Dr. James Grime tells the true story of Edward Goodwin who tried to copyright Pi (the mathematical constant that’s the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter) so anyone using it would have to pay him royalties. He almost succeeded.
