Ya-Dig? Sho-Nuff: Spike Lee on Kickstarter
Kickstarter of the Week
If Zach Braff can do it, why not Spike Lee?
The iconoclastic director has taken to Kickstarter to support his latest film. He’s not putting a dime into his pocket–it will all go on the screen.
Here is Spike’s perspective on it: “With the current climate in The Hollywood Studio System it’s not an encouraging look for Independent Filmmakers. I’m not hating, just stating the facts. Super Heroes, Comic Books, 3D Special EFX, Blowing up the Planet Nine Times and Fly through the Air while Transforming is not my Thang…. I have a different vision of what Cinema can be, a different vision of what some under-served Audiences might want to see.”
So do we, and that’s why we’re supporting Spike’s campaign this week. The project needs to raise $1,250,000 by August 21, 2013.
Steven Soderbergh has already kicked in $10,000–can Cultural Weekly‘s readers at least match that?
